District 779 was redistricted. The Rotary Club of South Portland - Cape Elizabeth with 29 other clubs in the Southern portion were scheduled to become District 778 on July l, 1990. The clubs from Lewiston northward remained in District 779.

On August 9, 1989, District 779 Governor James Labrie of the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, N.H. visited the club with his wife Ellen.

On August 26th the annual lobster bake was held at Fort Williams with about 100 Rotarians and guests present. Many Rotarians were present from the Rotary Club of Wellesley, MA. The Cape Elizabeth Town Manager presented a plaque that will go in Fort Williams recognizing our donation of the flagpole.

Profit from our fried dough booth at Deering Oaks Festival amounted to $806.

The Rotary Club of South Portland - Cape Elizabeth softball team came home with the Rotary Club of Biddeford-Saco Tournament Trophy. Our record was three wins and no losses.

On September 28th we held our annual Theatre Night at the Portland Players with the production, "Little Shop of Horrors." Profit was $1,299.

On October 4th we returned to the Purpoodock Club for our weekly meetings. Cost of the dinner was $10.

District Governor James Labrie asked each Rotary Club in District 779 to send $2 per member to help the Rotary Club of St. Anne - des - Monts settle a law suit brought by a guest at a fund raising function who slipped and broke her wrist. 

On November 15th Ellen Labrie, District Governor Jim's wife, spoke to the club on Intercultural Nursing. Her slides were on hospital conditions in the Dominican Republic. A check for $500 was presented to Ellen in support of this project.

On December 13th we held our annual Senior Citizen Christmas Porty with musical entertainment by the Lyric Theatre. 
 
Profit from our Christmas Tree Sale amounted to $18,000. 

Charter Night for the Rotary Club of Saco Bay was held on January 20th at the Sheraton Hotel in South Portland.
 
Doug Stewart's son, Matt, was chosen as a Rotary exchange student. He spent the 1990 - 1991 school year in Belgium.

The Rotary Club of Portland celebrated its Diamond Jubilee with a luncheon on January 26th. The meeting covered the 75 year history of their club.

Twelve couples from the Rotary Club of Portland and three couples from our club planned to attend the International Rotary Conference in Portland, Oregon.

On January 24th, 1990, Tony Wagner and his wife Sally, both Paul Harris Fellows, made Tony's parents Paul Harris Fellows.

The Board of Directors approved $1,000 for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. We donated $13,000 for the restoration of the Bug Light on the South Portland waterfront.

On April 10th, nine members of our Club visited the Rotary Club of Wellesley, Massachusetts.

On April 11th, District Governor Jim Labrie presented the club with an award from Rotary International. The 10,000% Rotary Foundation Award was presented as recognition of our club's support of the Rotary Foundation. We are the first club in District 779 to receive this award.

Bob Carson has been nominated to the post of Secretary for the new District 778 for 1990 - 1991.

A new club, the Rotary Club of Seabrook-Hampton Falls, N.H. announced plans for their Charter Night.

On April 26th several members of our club visited the Rotary Club of Old Town as part of the governor's challenge to accomplish several activities.

On June 2nd the club sponsored a Schooner Fare Concert at Mahoney Middle School. Profit was approximately $2,000.

On June 3rd the club played in the Pine Tree Society for Crippled Children softball tournament and also made $500 contribution to the society.

On May 19th, District Governor Nominee, Dan Mooers, presided at a District Assembly held at the Holiday Inn by the Bay. Over 300 Rotarians were present. Bill Kourakos was the chairman and it was the most successful Assembly ever held in this District.

District Governor Nominee, Dan Mooers, received The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service from Edward F. Cadman, Chairman of the Trustees of the Rotary Foundation, Rotary International. This award can only be given to one person in a given district each year and only 25 to 50 are given
worldwide.

Profit from our Fried Dough Booth at Family Fun Day amounted to $1,500.

Sam Giftos was a member of the Credentials Committee at the Rotary International Convention in Portland, Oregon. He was accompanied by his wife Helene, Dan and Shirley Mooers and Doug and Pam Stewart.

The District Conference was held at The Balsams at which time Dan Mooers became the Charter District Governor of the new District 778.
