The club began the year with 44 members.
Our summer outing was held at Dick Kilroy's cottage on Little Sebago on July 12.
Two road signs were erected informing visitors to our city when and where our meetings are held.
We became a 200% Rotary Foundation Club.
On Friday, October 30 District Governor Turner Brown made his visit. This was a Ladies' Night held at Carolyn's in Cape
Elizabeth.
The Rotary Little League team that we sponsored won the league championship and the city championship.
At our December 23rd meeting we hosted 20 children from the South Portland area.
A joint meeting with the South Portland Kiwanis Club was held on December 30. Martha Hurd, a Rotary Foundation Fellow, was our
guest speaker.
Profit from the Christmas tree sale was $1,900.
Ladies Night, Saturday, February 6, at the Grand View Cottage Hotel, 551 Preble Street, South Portland featured dancing and Lobster or Sirloin at $10 per couple.
We defeated the Rotary Club of Scarborough in a three-month attendance contest. We won permanent possession of the attendance trophy.
A program of color slides of Maine and club pictures was sent to our matching club in Abbeyville, France. This was narrated by Martha Hurd in French. This was requested by Rotary
International President in "The Rotarian" entitled "An Invitation to World Understanding Week."
The University of Maine Glee Club on its way to the Worlds Fair gave a concert in South Portland High School auditorium. Our sponsorship consisted of providing them with dinner at Howard
Johnson's and club members providing bed and breakfast. The club sold many advertisements in the program and participated in
advance ticket sales for the May 5 concert.
The District 779 Conference was held at the Wentworth-by-the-Sea, Portsmouth, New Hampshire May 13 - 20.
