In November Jaqueline M Critchley resigned from the club and Bob Levasseur was appointed President-elect and Frank E Gemme was appointed Vice president.

PDG Dan Mooers was nominated by the club to be a Director of Rotary International and he was subsequently elected.

Fried dough sales at Deering Oaks earned $1,179. Theater night, featuring "Lend me a Tenor" earned $2,100 and the Christmas Tree sale made $18,192.

In March Dan Mooers served as General Chairman of a Salute to Rotary World Fellowships attended by RI President Cliff Dochterman in Cambridge MA. Most of the World Fellowships were represented including the Railroad Fellowship chaired by Doug Stewart.

A spouses' night with radio talk show host Al Diamon attracted a large crowd.

The club helped to develop a pedestrian trail at Great Pond in Cape Elizabeth and contributed to a South Portland playground.

Barbaro Gill and Senator George Mitchell were named Paul Harris Fellows.

Club membership rose to $54.

Contributions included $4,000 in scholarships, $2,500 to the Rotary Foundation, $2,000 to Project Literacy, $1,000 to DARE programs, $700 for the Senior Citizens Party at Christmas, and $2,275 to sponsor the student exchange program with the Rotary Club of Beauceville, Quebec.

We also sent $1,000 to the Rotary Club of South Miami for relief from Hurricane Andrew and $500 for relief in Bosnia as a result of an appeal from Rotary International President Cliff Dochterman. In addition approximately $6,000 in other donations were made.

The club honored area citizens for service in the area of elderly, education, and literacy. Receiving the Service Above Self Awards were Linda Johnson and Jim Soule of South Portland and Bill Wadman of Cape Elizabeth and the Cape Elizabeth Rescue Unit.

Our club received a presidential citation for the completion of goals set forth from Rotary International. It was believed that our District 7780 was the only district in the Rotary world where every club received the citation. This was on large part due to the efforts of District Governor Mort Schmidt who visited the club in September.

Club members Sam Giftos, Bill Kourakos, and Dan Mooers attended the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, Australia.

President Mike McGovern constantly emphasized that this is "our" Rotary year and not the presidents. The Rotary theme was real Happiness is Helping Others. Mike hosted a celebratory cookout at his home on June 9th to round out the year.
